The subtitle is 'A programmer's Reference to BIOS, DOS, and Third- party Calls'. It is exactly that, 36 chapters of solid information. At a recent local meeting someone wanted to know how to reset the real time clock from the CMOS clock. It was a matter of a couple of minutes to find the relevant calls and a better solution to his problem. All he needed to do was to read the CMOS clock from his program.

If you do much PC clone programming using interrupts, system level resources, which must work with other packages and so on this book is a valuable reference.

As the page numbering is restarted for each of the 36 chapters getting an exact page count is tedious. It is somewhere in the region of 1000 pages, covering everything the authors have managed to find out. If you are familiar with the MS-DOS Interrupt list maintained by Ralf Brown and available on many BBs much of the contents of this book will already be available to you. However the book has nearly 50 pages of index as well as a degree of internal organisation. The book corresponds to release 26 (June 1991).
