Book Review
I am not going to waste time on this one. If you need to know about
the format of a graphics file (PCX, GIF, FAX etc.) this book is as close to a
definitive reference volume as you will find. Just under 200 pages is a
general overview of issues including conversion and compression. The rest
covers all the graphic file formats the authors can find. There are a couple
of instances such as Harvard Graphics where publication of details has been
forbidden. Otherwise it is just what you need.
By the way, check that your copy is complete - the first copy sent to me was
probably a rogue, but it had a duplication of 48 pages and a corresponding
missing 48 pages. When this kind of problem happens in a reference book it
is quite easy for it to sit on your shelf for months, or even years, without
you realising that something is missing until you need it. Note the wrong
collation of pages ix and xi in the index - some silly person at the printers
doesn't understand roman numbers.
