This book is like most others. It takes the reader through the familiar topics such as logic control, functions arrays and pointers. Not that this is a criticism. In fact the reverse would be true. If it did not cover these topics it would certainly be a case for not buying it.

I suppose what makes this book stand out from the crowd is the fact that it covers both Borland and Microsoft compilers. The screen shots are also from Windows 95 which, if nothing else, shows the book is up to date. The book also covers C++ streams; a topic I have often found missing in some other books that claim to cover the language.

If you are looking for a general C/C++ book then I would take a look at this one. Also, if you are undecided about which compiler you are going to use then it has the edge over books which concentrate on one particular version. However, don't just go and buy it. Have a flip through it in your local book shop. So much depends on the style of writing. I found the style quite easy to read but you might find it is not to your liking.
